This website has been setup so that Work aways can Learn more about my property and where they will be staying. I live in a large finca near the village of Riogordo and Part of the top floor has been converted into a self contained one bedroom appartment with a private roof terrace over looking the river. The Finca is called Huerta Grande (meaning large market garden or orchard) and is set in 10,000 m2 of land with a large number of fruit trees and bordered on three sides by the river from which the village gets its name. The river is the life blood of the campo and is home to many creatures including fish, frogs and turtles. The water also attracts many birds including a pair of herons. The finca is situated at the bottom of the valley on a good tarmac lane just 2.5 kilometers from the center of the village of Riogordo.
You are welcome to pick the fruit from the trees when it is in season. The fruit includes, oranges, lemons, pomegranites, loquat and quince. I have also just planted a pear tree and a nectarine. There is nothing quiet like freshly squeezed orange juice made from fruit you have picked from the tree moments before.
The apartment has its own seperate access from the drive via six steps. It is also gated to keep my dogs away from you!
The house as seen from the river. This photo was taken in April 2009 and as we hadn't had rain for a number of weeks the water level has dropped a lot since the winter, on a bad day the water reaches near to the top of the bank! The river is fed by a spring and has water in it all year round, although it not more than a trickle in the summer as all the local farmers use it to water their crops.
